Manufacturing (PGPEX-VLM)
Programme Commencing August 2007
A Joint IIM-IIT Post Graduate
Program for Executives for Visionary Leadership in Manufacturing (VLM),
leading to award of Post Graduate Diploma in Management for Executives in
Manufacturing (diploma subject to approval by the institutes),
is being launched for the first time in India in August 2007 under the auspices
of National Manufacturing Competitiveness Council (NMCC) and the
Ministry of Human Resource Development (MHRD) of the Government of India
with the support of industry.
The Program will involve
development of leadership and management skills together with cutting edge
technology awareness and proficiency. The Program includes course work at IIM
Calcutta, IIT Kanpur & IIT Madras for 32 weeks, followed by
industry internship for 13 weeks and industry visits in India and abroad for 7
weeks.

Joint Program of Indian Institute
of Management Calcutta (IIMC), Indian Institute of Technology, Kanpur (IITK) and
Indian Institute of Technology Madras (IITM).
One-year full-time residential
program.
32 weeks classroom lectures, case
studies, tutorials, lab sessions, project work at IIMC, IITM and IITK; each week
has 6 working days; each working day having 3 hours of class room lectures in
the forenoon, 2 hours case study / lab sessions in the afternoon; total 960
contact hours.
13 weeks internship in industry.
7 weeks industry visits in India
and abroad.
The program is meant for
promising engineers drawn from the manufacturing sector, who have the potential
for top management positions.
Program will involve development
of leadership and management skills together with cutting edge technology
awareness and proficiency.
The program will have a proper
balance of theoretical inputs and practical training to develop a high degree of
leadership skill which would enable Indian companies convert manufacturing into
a competitive weapon.
Course delivery through an
appropriate mix of class room lectures, case studies, individual and team
assignments.
Eligibility
A first class degree in any
branch of Engineering.
Minimum 5 years experience in
manufacturing sector; holding responsibilities in production planning and
control, research, design and development, quality control, plant engineering
and maintenance, etc.
Candidates may be sponsored by
their employers or they may be self-sponsored.

Process
Selection
Selection process of the
candidates is based on academic performance, a valid GMAT or GRE score (if
available within last three years), relevant work experience, employer's
recommendations, and performance in the Aptitude Test and Interview
to be conducted jointly by IIM Calcutta, IIT Kanpur & IIT Madras.
Fees
Tuition fees will be Rs. Five
Lakhs. In addition, expenses incurred for boarding, lodging, traveling and
industry visits in India and abroad would be borne by the students.

The completed Application Form,
along with a Demand Draft for Rs. 2,000/- in favour of "IIM Calcutta"
payable at Kolkata, should be sent through Registered Speed Post / Courier
service or handed over in person to VLMP Office, IIM Calcutta, Joka, Diamond
Harbour Road, Kolkata-700104.
Last date for receiving the
completed PGPEX-VLM Application Form at IIM Calcutta is May 21, 2007. Incomplete
applications are liable to be rejected. For any enquiry, please quote the
Application Form number in your correspondence. No individual regret letters
will be sent to not short-listed applicants.
