Introduction

Narsee Monjee Institute of Management Studies was established in 1981. The institute commenced its activities with starting of Masters Degree Programme in Management Studies.

NMIMS is the first business school to be accredited and awarded a "FIVE STAR" rating by the UGC sponsored National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC), which is the highest rating that is awarded by the council.
NMIMS has been awarded the ISO 9001:2000 Certification by ICL in 2004.

Based on the recommendations of the University Grants Commission and All India Council for Technical Education, Ministry of Human Resource Development, Government of India, has accorded Deemed to be University Status to NMIMS in January 2003.

Visualising the onset of globalisation, the institute went international and has established international linkages with:

ESSCA, Angers (France) (Students' exchange programme)
Euromed Province, Marseille (France) (Students' exchange programme)
Hungary (Students' exchange programme at Budapest)
NMIMS has been selected as the only Indian academic institution to be invited to participate in a road show covering 4 cities in Italy (2002). Cross-cultural issues in Indo-Italian business relations and Indian academic systems are to be discussed.
NMIMS has now tied-up with Universiti Uttara Malaysia for student exchange, faculty exchange and programme exchanges.
Linkages with institutions in South Africa and U.S.A. are on the anvil.

Courses Offered

Master of Business Administration (MBA)

This is a two-year full-time programme, spread over six trimesters and leading to the degree in Master of Business Administration. The programme seeks to train students to become decision makers with social sensitivity, broad strategic vision, and capability of assuming higher corporate responsibility and marked degree of flexibility in interpersonal relationships.

Specialisations :International Business, Marketing, Finance, Human Resources, Information Systems, Operations, Rural Marketing and Advertising and Communications.

Number of seats: 240 (15 per cent seats are reserved under management quota).

Eligibility
Every candidate for the full-time degree of Master of Business Administration must have passed a Bachelor's degree examination (10+2+3) in any faculty of recognized University with at least 50% marks in aggregate as shown in the statement of marks.

A student who has passed the examination for the degree of Master of Business Administration with specialization in any one discipline, viz. Marketing, Finance, HR etc. will, on submission of a new application and payment of fresh fees be permitted to undertake specialization in another discipline by attending classes and appearing for examination in related subjects in the fourth, fifth and sixth trimesters. A student passing in an additional group/discipline under the provision of this rule will be awarded a certificate to that effect.

Selection Process
Admission shall be based on written exam conducted on all India basis and Group Discussion and Personal Interview

Masters in Business Administration - Technology (MBA TECH)

Specialisation :Information Technology, Telecom, Chemical and Manufacturing.

A five year full-time programme for 10+2 Science Students, spread over 15 trimesters aimed at cultivating technology managers specifically skilled to take up emerging challenges in high tech industries. Four technology areas are being offered this year - Information Technology, Telecom, Chemical and Manufacturing.

Eligibility
Every candidate for the full time MBA- TECH programme must have passed 10+ 2 exam with Science or Science vocational with minimum 50% marks aggregate as shown in the statement of marks. Candidates awaiting final year results may also apply.

Written Test
The syllabus for Maths,Physics & Chemistry will be on the lines of MH ENGG CET. For "Reasoning" the student may read "Logical Reasoning question Bank" avaialble in Bookstalls.

Post Graduate Diploma in Business Administration (PGDBA)

Programme Delivery
NMIMS has tied up with Hughes Escorts Communications Ltd. (HECL), the country's largest VSAT service provider to bring this program to all cities.

NMIMS faculty will go to a specially designed, ultra-hi-tech specialty studio in Mumbai and deliver their lectures in front of high definition video cameras. This video along with the corresponding audio will be transmitted instantaneously to HECL managed classrooms across more than 20 cities of India.

Students are required to go to these classrooms. In these classrooms, students will be able to see the NMIMS faculty on their computer screens, they will be able to hear what the NMIMS faculty is saying and will be able to interact with NMIMS faculty in real-time. The overall effect is a little like watching a live telecast of a well-made television news program, the only difference being that in the television news program, the audience cannot interact with the news casters while here the students will be able to talk to the faculty, interrupt the faculty in case of doubt, ask questions, reply to questions asked by the faculty and so on.

Eligibility
A bachelor's degree (10+2+3) in any discipline from a recognised University with minimum 50% marks in the aggregate.
Those who have appeared for the Final Examinations and are awaiting the results can also apply. The Degree will be awarded to them, only after they submit the proof of having passed the Examination.

Selection Process 
The Selection Process is based on the entrance test - NMAT followed by Test of General Awareness, Group Discussion and Personal Interview for qualifying candidates.

Candidates who have appeared for NMAT for MBA admissions to NMIMS for the academic year 2003-2005 are eligible for admissions based on that NMAT score. Cut-off is 90 marks at NMAT. Candidates who have appeared for NMAT but have scored less than 90 are eligible to appear for NMAT again.

Post Graduate Diploma in Business Management (Family Business)

The Family Business Programme at NMIMS (Deemed University) was started in 1999, to help meet the unique needs of family business owners and managers. The objective of the programme is to assist family-owned businesses in understanding the changing dynamics of competition as well as organization, brought about by liberalization, privatisation and globalisation. The Programme intends to build a partnership between family business owners, managers and NMIMS (Deemed University).

Eligibility
A recognised degree or a recognised 3-year post-HSC Diploma
Good Communication Skills
Actual involvement in running of the family business
Total commitment to self improvement

Selection Process
The Institute will assess the suitability of the student, based on the information provided in the application form. There will be no admission test. The applicant will have to go through a rigorous personal interview conducted by a panel, consisting of faculty members of the Institute.

Post Graduate Diploma in Actuarial Science (PGDAS)

One-year Full-time Autonomous Programme by NMIMS.

Looking at the vertically growing demand of actuaries and widening gap between demand and supply, NMIMS has thought of introducing a Post Graduate Diploma in Actuarial Science.

The Actuarial Science Programme is being launched now in 2003 at NMIMS (Deemed University). It is a unique programme of its kind for the first time in India, to help meet the instructional needs of actuarial science fellowship aspirants. The objective of the programme is to assist these students prepare well in a short time for a large no. of papers of the fellowship programme so that the process of their getting qualified gets expedited. It is eventually meeting the need of the industry in India as globalization of insurance sector has lead to large gap between demand and supply of actuarial professionals and continuously rising demand with almost negligible supply.

The students successfully completing the course will be awarded a diploma in Actuarial Science by NMIMS deemed university. More importantly, the students will be rigorously trained for as many as 10 papers out of 16 papers needed to become an Actuarial Fellow.

The salient features of the programme are:
A Fast Track Catalyst to the prestigious Fellowship of the Actuarial Societies in the world
Coverage beyond CT series papers of ASI, IOA (UK).

Eligibility
A recognised degree with a minimum of 50% marks in the degree examination or Membership of ICAI or ICWAI or ICFA, Good Communication Skills.
Candidates who are graduates or postgraduates in Statistics / Mathematics / Economics OR
Employees of Actuarial Departments of Insurance/Finance/Consulting Companies OR
Associates/fellows of Insurance Institute of India may be preferred

Selection Process
Based on written test and personal interview.

Post Graduate Diploma In Pharmaceutical Management

A full-time programme spread over 6 trimesters aimed at cultivating specifically skilled managers to take up emerging challenges in the pharmaceutical industry.

The programme covers about 9* courses per trimester and is spread over six trimesters. The student executes an eight-week industry project after successful completion of the third trimester.

*Subject to change depending on the need / advice of the industry.

Eligibility
This programme invites all those who intend to make a future in this sunrise industry from various disciplines like Biomedical / Chemical Engineering, Life Sciences, Pharmaceutical Sciences and Medicine.

A bachelor's degree in any of the above-mentioned disciplines from a recognised university with a minimum of 50% marks in the aggregate. Those who have appeared for the Final Examination and are awaiting results may also apply. Proof of having passed the graduate examination is required. Also candidates with work experience are invited to consider this as a career move.

Selection
Candidates will be selected on the basis of an all-India entrance test. These tests are online (Computer Based) and are conducted 4 times a day for four days at a number of centres (cities) in India. It is a 90-minute, 100 questions, 150 mark test. Details of the test are also available at www.NMATonLine.org. Those who clear this will have to appear for GD and interview at NMIMS, Mumbai. Admission will be offered to those declared selected after this process.

MBA (Capital Markets)

The Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE), 125 years old prestigious institution, is probably one of the oldest Stock Exchanges in Asia and now ranks the fourth largest Stock Exchange in the world. Financial markets in India have become synonymous with BSE.

NMIMS, in association with BSE has launched a unique programme, MBA (Capital Markets). The programme is an outcome of a series of discussions and interactions between NMIMS and BSE. The carefully designed curriculum and the required state-of-art infrastructure and facilities take care of the requirements of imparting the necessary knowledge and the skill. This intensive, high-end, full time programme is of 2 years duration and covers over 30 papers in the areas of Management, Capital Market Concepts, Operational Aspects and Practical Training. Mock Trading Sessions and live data will be an important feature of the programme.

The two-year full-time programme involves classroom lectures in a highly participative environment, exercises, assignments, simulations, mid-term tests, etc. The successful candidates will be awarded MBA (Capital Markets).
MBA (Capital Markets) comes from two of the excellent institutions of Mumbai, namely NMIMS and BSE. It is a combination of an Academic Institute and Financial Institution offering the best to meet the changing market requirements.

Eligibility:
A Bachelor's degree of minimum 3 years duration or its equivalent (Under the 10+2+3 pattern or any other pattern fulfilling the mandatory requirements of 15 years of Formal education) from a recognized University (recognized by UGC) in any faculty with a minimum 50% marks as shown in the final marks statement and degree certificate issued by the university with one year experience in the finance sector. The candidates should check that he/she is eligible as per the conditions regarding qualification for admission stated in prospectus and the important instructions given with admission form.
