Introduction

The Indian Institute of Social Welfare & Business Management (IISWBM), Kolkata (at inception known as All India Institute of Social Welfare and Business Management: rechristened as IISWBM in 1958) will complete fifty years of its existence as a separate legal entity on April 25, 2003. It was created through a resolution adopted by the Syndicate of the University of Calcutta on April 25, 1953. IISWBM introduced the first programme on management education in India.

The Institute�s rich tradition, ability to combine time-honoured values with state-of-the-art technology constitutes its strength and makes it unique. Their curriculum is benchmarked with the best practices around the world and they are able to incorporate the latest research and latest material into their training and teaching programs. They also get the benefit of faculty exchange through their understanding with various national and international universities.

Courses Offered

Masters in Business Administration-Full time

The two-year full time MBA deals with the various fields of management in the 1st year, in the second year students choose their specialization, which has to be backed by a project report. The programme covers all the basic areas of management, and brings the students from different educational background on an equal platform regarding the various avenues in management.

The first year covers Management Principles Production and Material Management, Organisational Behavior, Personnel Management, Managerial Economics Marketing Management, Quantitative Methods Operational Research MIS, Management Accounting and Financial Management. These subjects helps the students know the basic areas in management, this also helps students choose an area of his choice and interest to him for specialization in the second year.

The second year aims at fine tuning the students to their specialization, here the student chooses from the various fields like Finance, Marketing, Systems and Personnel management. The students are expected to do a research project on their specialization with an organization. This project work helps the student to actually work on the field and here they are exposed to the working of the organisation. The specialzation and the Project Report are then used to evaluate the students.

Eligibility
Honours in any discipline or Graduation in any professional course like, Engineering,Agriculture, Medicine etc

Admission Process
All the candidates have to take the Common Admission Test (CAT) conducted jointly by the six IIM�s and appear for the group discussion and personal interview, if shortlisted.

Fees and Expenses
For the entire programme Rs.1,33,000/-

Masters in Business Administration-Part Time

This is also know as the evening programme or the executive programme where in the candidate are to be sponsored by the company they are working for.

Eligibilty
Honours in any discipline or Graduation in any professional course like Engineering ,Agriculture, Medicine etc with a minimum of 2 years work experience in a supervisory level and must be employed in a full time job.

Admission Process
All the candidates have to take the MAT exam followed by group discussion and personal interview.

Fees and ExpensesFor the entire programme Rs.1,00,000/-

Masters in Human Resource Management (MHRM)

The Programme is designed to give students, a liberal business education and simultaneously prepare them for careers in managing human resources in industry. The emphasis of the programme is on an integrated understanding of the totality of business, its philosophy and socio-economic inter-relationship. The programme is specially designed to develop and enhance the basic managerial skills and abilities of students and equip them with appropriate tools of modern management for better decision-making.

This Course leads to the MHRM degree of Calcutta University. The degree has been recognised by the All India Council for Technical Education(AICTE), Department of Education, Ministry of Human Resource Development, Government of India.

Eligibilty
Honours degree in any discipline/ graduate in any professional course like engineering,agriculture,medicine

Admission Process
All the candidates have to take the Common Admission Test (CAT) conducted jointly by the six IIM�s and appear for the group discussion and personal interview, if shortlisted.

For the entire programme Rs.1,00,000/-

Post Graduate Diploma Programme in Business Management (Evening)

PGDBM and PGDHRM are two separate courses, each of three years' duration. The course starts in January each year. This course is divided into three parts spread over three years. There are altogether 18 papers including project work and Viva-Voce and the examination held at the end of each year.

Eligibility
3 year's bachelor degree in any discipline including professional degrees in engineering etc from a recognised university. Have work experience as executive/supervisor for at least one year ,drawing a minimum monthly salary of Rs 3000/-. Be sponsored by their respective employers.

Admission Process
Admissions are  through the MAT scores as the first round and GD and PI in the second round.

Fees and Expenses
For the entire programme Rs.1,10,000/- (approx.)

Public Systems Management Courses (PSM)

The Institute is running Post Graduate Diploma courses in Transportation & Logistics Management, Energy Management, Environment management and Health Care & Hospital Management. These are 2 years full time day programmes.

The day courses are divided into four semesters. The first semester is confined to general management subjects and common classes are held for all the disciplines. The second, third and fourth semesters are then devoted to instructions in specialised subjects, peculiar to each discipline.

Eligibilty
 Three years graduate from recognised University in Science/Engineering/Economics
 Engineering/Science/Commerce or with Economics
 Any branch of Medical Science/Pharmacy/Biological Science/Economics/Commerce/Social Sciences and Nutrition
 Engineering/Physics/Chemistry/Diploma/ITI

Admission Process
Admissions are  through the MAT scores as the first round and GD and PI in the second round.

For the entire programme Rs.1,10,000/- (approx.)

Diploma Programme in Travel & Tourism Management

IISWBM has introduced a Post Graduate Diploma course in Tourism Management as per the approved syllabus of the Indian Institute of Tourism and Travel Management from August ,2002. It is the only Institute approved by the Goverment of India to conduct this course outside their own Ministry.

The objective of the course is to provide training in tourism industry management and other related subjects to persons, institutions, bodies and associations connected with the tourism industry. The curriculum which is approved by the AICTE ,is designed to produce not only managers for travel and tourism industry ,but also entrepreneurs who would create employment opportunity to cater to the imminent needs of the society.

The course is conducted over two semesters over a period of 12 months. The diploma on completion will be awarded by the Indian Institute of Tourism and Travel Management -Gwalior.

Sale of forms begin around February . An all India admission test is conducted by IITTM, Gwalior around May .Forms and prospectus are available at Gwalior, Baji Rout regional Centre for Eastern India,Bhubaneswar and at IISWBM , Calcutta.

Eligibilty
Graduate in any discipline.

Admission Process
Admission  through Written test & Interview.

Fees and Expenses
For the entire programme Rs.54,000/- (approx.)

Masters Diploma in Bio-Informatics

IISWBM and ECIT a division of Electronics Corporation of India have come together in offering a one and half year Masters Diploma in Bio Informatics .The course is spread over 1 year 6 months and divided into 3 semesters. 

Eligibilty
3 Years Graduates / Post Graduates in Bio �Sciences, B. Pharma, BE/ B. Tech/ MSc of recognized University or a degree considered equivalent there to and fulfills other conditions. 

Admission Process
Candidates applying for Master Diploma In Bio Informatics will have to appear for an aptitude test. Successful candidates will be interviewed before final selection at IISWBM. 

Management Development Programmes (MDPs) and Entrepreneurship Development Programme (EDPs)

The Institute runs a number of MDPs for industry executives on different social welfare and management subjects. It runs Entrepreneurship Development Programme (EDPs) for entrepreneurship partially in small scale Industries.
