Ph.D. Programme in Management, Full-Time
Nirma University is a statutory university established under the Gujarat State Act. The Institute of Management (formerly known as Nirma Institute of Management), establiched in 1996, is a constituent institution of Nirma University. The University is recognized by the University Grants Commission (UGC) under the section 2(f) of the UGC Act. The institute is ranked among the top B-schools in the country. The institute has been offering Post Graduate Programmes in Management from its inception and Doctoral Programmes in Management since 1999.
In its quest to promote excellence in management, the Institute launched an autonomous doctoral programme in 1999 leading to the award of Fellow Programme in Management (FPM). However, after the Institute of Management becoming a constituent of Nirma University in 2003, the degree of Ph. D. of Nirma University is
granted on completion of the programme.
Eligibility :
Those aspiring to be admitted in the Ph.D. programme must hold a master's degree
or equivalent (such as PGDM) with a minimum of 60% marks or equivalent CGPA.
Candidates appearing for final examination can also apply, provided they satisfy
the eligibility requirement by June 30, 2010.

Selection Process
The selection procedure for admission consists of two steps :
Written Test
Candidates will be evaluated on the basis of their applications and supporting
documents and those who are eligible will be called for a written test. The
written test will be held at Ahmedabad.
The test consists of the following four sections :
Quantitative Skills
Verbal Skills
Logic and Data Interpretation
Social and General Awareness
Each section consists of 30 questions. The total of 120 questions are to be attended within two hours. Negative marks will be assigned for wrong/incorrect answer. The test will be objective type with multiple choice items.
Personal Interview
Candidates short-listed on the basis of their performance in the written test will be called for personal interview on the same day written test itself.
The final selection to the programme would be based on the candidate’s performance in the written test and personal interview. The personal interviews are normally held only at Ahmedabad.
The following weightage will be given for each component of the selection criteria :
Written Test : 50%
Personal Interview : 50%

Ph. D. (External)
The programme aims to provide an opportunity to researchers, teachers and industry professionals to excel their career in teaching, research and consultancy. The Programme is designed specially for working professionals while continuing in their jobs.
Eligibility :
(a) A Master's degree or equivalent with a minimum of 60% marks or equivalent grade recognized by the Nirma University. In addition, the candidate should have at least three years full-time teaching experience in management or related discipline or five years of relevant industrial work
experience at managerial level.
(b) Notwithstanding anything contained above, the Director (NU) may make relaxation in the above criteria in individual case based on the genuineness and the merit of the case.
Procedure for Registration
The candidates who intend to register for the study will have to apply in the prescribed proforma along with a preliminary research proposal on which they intend to work.

Selection Process
The said applications with the proposal will be submitted before a committee consisting of the Dean of the Faculty of Doctoral Studies and Research, the Dean of the Faculty of Management, DPM Chairperson, the Faculty Guide and one faculty from the area in which the research scholar is interested to pursue his research work. On the recommendations of this Committee the candidates will be registered
for the Doctoral Programme in Management.
